Ready to start your teen’s Behind-the-Wheel training? XLR8 Driving School makes it easy for students who have completed the classroom portion of their driver education at a commercial driving school or public high school.

Request Your Parent Taught Driver Education Program Guide:
Before starting Behind-the-Wheel lessons, parents must request the Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Program Guide through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Obtain Your Learner’s Permit:
Students should complete the classroom-only portion of driver education at their commercial or high school program. Then, visit your local Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office to apply for a learner’s license (permit). -
Start Behind-the-Wheel Training with XLR8 Driving School:
Once students have their learner’s permit, they are ready to enroll in the XLR8 Behind-the-Wheel Only program.
- Important Program Details:
Parents should download and print the Behind-the-Wheel booklets and driving logs provided by XLR8 Driving School.- One booklet contains the required Behind-the-Wheel Curriculum.
- The second document helps parents complete the state-mandated 30 additional hours of supervised driving.
- Both documents must be completed before the student schedules their final driving test with DPS.
- After one week of enrollment, a DE-964 Certificate of Completion will be emailed to you.
